6. Building a Search File

Once your search is completed, you will have to put together a search file.  A sample of possible contents of your search folder:

Categories A and B: copy of records found in Europe.

Categories A to C: large-scale map of the area of origin; list of other migrants coming from the same area (see NOF).

Categories A to D: list of papers and books consulted or available in your area.

Categories A to E: a search in the French phone book (on the Internet, see the Web page www.pageszoom.com or www.epita.fr:5000 /11/) for all the departements (one at a time) to locate places where the surname is concentrated.  Check the Dictionary of the French towns (Dictionnaire des communes or Dictionnaire national des communes de France) to locate places bearing the required name.
