
Keep in mind that the border of provinces changed from time to time. Moreover, modern French region are often based on the old province names but with other borders. Dioceses usually their own borders. For example, the diocese of Angers in the province of Anjou has not the same border as the province of Anjou.
* means a département that took only a small part of the said province. Some départements are not named when the part they took was too small. So, sometimes, you have to check the other départements.
The main town is for reference only. Sometimes, a province was
shared between many départements and some archives can be found
in all those départements.
