Salt-smugglers (preliminary version)

A "faux-saunier" is a salt-smuggler. In France, the price of salt varies by region. A salt-smuggler carries salt he purchases from an area where the price is low to another region where the price is higher.

In this release, the list includes salt smugglers identified in couples. The reference list is courtesy of Renald Lessard who published a more comprehensive list in L'Ancêtre, vol. 13. This list is the latest version received from the author in December 2014. It was originally built from the microfilms and completed later.

This is a preliminary list that will be improved with next releases. If you know a list of "lettres de cachet" (letters signed by the king of France containing orders to enforce arbitrary actions like exiling persons to colonies), thank you for letting us know.

Background colors mean:

Green: indicates there are descendants after 1899 in the database.
Blue: indicates there is no descendant after 1899 in the database but living descendants may exist

Notes :

The column "Descendants" indicates the marriages in the complete database, where some genealogies are private.
11/2032 means 11 generations and 2032 marriages of descendants in the database (duplicates not filtered).
() indicates the most recent marriage in the database.
[] indicates the most recent marriage in completely male or female line in the database (for DNA analysis)
The column "Estimated Living Descendants in Quebec" is based on 100 genealogies from couples married in the province of Québec in 1939 and 1940.
